5 Setup Tips for Barry Wright Late Model Chassis
By Jacob Shatto | April 1, 2026
We've run Barry Wright chassis for years. Here are the 5 setup fundamentals we always come back to.
Barry Wright builds some of the best late model chassis in asphalt racing. But even a great chassis needs to be set up right. Here are 5 things we always check.
1. Get Your Ride Heights Right First
Before you touch anything else, get your static ride heights where the manufacturer recommends. Everything else is built on this foundation. On our Barry Wright, we run about 4.5" left front and 5" right front.
2. Check Your Panhard Bar Height
The panhard bar controls your rear roll center. Moving it up tightens the car, moving it down loosens it. We check this every week because it's an easy adjustment that makes a big difference.
3. Don't Overlook Toe Settings
A sixteenth of an inch of toe can change how the car enters the corner. We run a slight toe-out on the front for quicker turn-in at Shady Bowl. Your track may be different.
4. Spring Rates Matter More Than You Think
Don't just bolt on whatever springs came with the car. Match your spring rates to your track banking, car weight, and driving style. Stiffer isn't always faster.
5. Scale the Car After Every Change
If you don't have scales, invest in a set. You can't set up a race car by feel alone. We scale ours before every night of racing.
The Bottom Line
Setup is an ongoing process. The fastest guys at the track aren't necessarily the ones with the most expensive parts — they're the ones who pay attention to the details.
